# Free paper textures and backgrounds > Free paper, wood, stone and fabric textures and backgrounds for designs, slides and web pages, from open collections, with sizes and licence verdicts. 14 images from 1 sources (Wikimedia Commons 14), updated 2026-11-03. Picked from a live search and refreshed daily. - Same search in the browser: https://image.shep.bot/search?q=paper+texture&category=background - Same search over the API: `curl "https://image.shep.bot/v1/search?q=paper+texture&category=background"` - Details, files and the credit line: `GET https://image.shep.bot/v1/images/{id}` with an id from the table below. - Licence verdicts: "Commercial use OK" (with or without credit) is cleared for commercial use; anything else must be checked or is non-commercial. "(editorial)" means people, insignia or brands appear without releases: not for ads. See https://image.shep.bot/docs/licences.md - Images are never re-hosted: thumbnails, previews and downloads come straight from the source sites. ## Surfaces for design Texture adds warmth to flat design: aged paper behind a recipe, a wood grain under a product shot, linen behind a wedding invitation, concrete behind a tech headline. These pages collect photographed textures and backgrounds from Wikimedia Commons and Openverse. ## Using them Lower the contrast or blend the texture with a colour so text stays readable. For repeating patterns, check whether the image tiles seamlessly, or mirror it at the edges. Download a size that matches the area: a small texture stretched across a 4K screen looks soft. For 3D work, physically based material sets with normal and roughness maps are on the sister site 3d.shep.bot. ## Images | ImageAsset | id | What | Source | Licence | Commercial use | Direct download | | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | | [Vintage Paper Texture (9789792113)](https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Vintage_Paper_Texture_(9789792113).jpg) | `wikimediacommons:Vintage_Paper_Texture_(9789792113).jpg` | Backgrounds & textures, 2194 × 2794, vertical, 2013 | Wikimedia Commons | CC BY 2.0 | Commercial use OK with credit | yes | | [Free crumpled paper texture for layers (2978651767)](https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Free_crumpled_paper_texture_for_layers_(2978651767).jpg) | `wikimediacommons:Free_crumpled_paper_texture_for_layers_(2978651767).jpg` | Backgrounds & textures, Photo, 2848 × 4272, vertical, 2008 | Wikimedia Commons | CC BY 2.0 | Commercial use OK with credit | yes | | [Wrinkled Paper Grunge Texture (9508952213)](https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Wrinkled_Paper_Grunge_Texture_(9508952213).jpg) | `wikimediacommons:Wrinkled_Paper_Grunge_Texture_(9508952213).jpg` | Backgrounds & textures, 5616 × 3744, 2013 | Wikimedia Commons | CC BY 2.0 | Commercial use OK with credit | yes | | [Free-paper-texture-27](https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Free-paper-texture-27.jpg) | `wikimediacommons:Free-paper-texture-27.jpg` | Backgrounds & textures, 610 × 507, 2016 | Wikimedia Commons | CC BY-SA 4.0 | Restricted: read the conditions | yes | | [FREE Wrinkled Fabric Paper Texture Creative Commons (4798631357)](https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:FREE_Wrinkled_Fabric_Paper_Texture_Creative_Commons_(4798631357).jpg) | `wikimediacommons:FREE_Wrinkled_Fabric_Paper_Texture_Creative_Commons_(4798631357).jpg` | Backgrounds & textures, Photo, 3744 × 5616, vertical, 2010 | Wikimedia Commons | CC BY 2.0 | Commercial use OK with credit | yes | | [BLUE PAPER SPOT TEXTURE (7241544474)](https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:BLUE_PAPER_SPOT_TEXTURE_(7241544474).jpg) | `wikimediacommons:BLUE_PAPER_SPOT_TEXTURE_(7241544474).jpg` | Backgrounds & textures, 1278 × 1920, vertical, 2012 | Wikimedia Commons | CC BY 2.0 | Commercial use OK with credit | yes | | [Free dark crumpled paper texture for layers (2984774568)](https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Free_dark_crumpled_paper_texture_for_layers_(2984774568).jpg) | `wikimediacommons:Free_dark_crumpled_paper_texture_for_layers_(2984774568).jpg` | Backgrounds & textures, Photo, 2848 × 4272, vertical, 2008 | Wikimedia Commons | CC BY 2.0 | Commercial use OK with credit | yes | | [Wrinkled Paper Texture Free Creative Commons (6816216700)](https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Wrinkled_Paper_Texture_Free_Creative_Commons_(6816216700).jpg) | `wikimediacommons:Wrinkled_Paper_Texture_Free_Creative_Commons_(6816216700).jpg` | Backgrounds & textures, 5616 × 3744, 2011 | Wikimedia Commons | CC BY 2.0 | Commercial use OK with credit | yes | | [Brown Paper Bag Texture Free Creative COmmons (6816220224)](https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Brown_Paper_Bag_Texture_Free_Creative_COmmons_(6816220224).jpg) | `wikimediacommons:Brown_Paper_Bag_Texture_Free_Creative_COmmons_(6816220224).jpg` | Backgrounds & textures, Photo, 5616 × 3744, 2011 | Wikimedia Commons | CC BY 2.0 | Commercial use OK with credit | yes | | [Brown paper bag texture](https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Brown_paper_bag_texture.jpg) | `wikimediacommons:Brown_paper_bag_texture.jpg` | Backgrounds & textures, 4861 × 5652, vertical, 2012 | Wikimedia Commons | CC BY 2.0 | Commercial use OK with credit | yes | | [Torn Ripped Wrinkled Damaged Paper Free High Resolution Texture Creative Commons (8077074905)](https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Torn_Ripped_Wrinkled_Damaged_Paper_Free_High_Resolution_Texture_Creative_Commons_(8077074905).jpg) | `wikimediacommons:Torn_Ripped_Wrinkled_Damaged_Paper_Free_High_Resolution_Texture_Creative_Commons_(8077074905).jpg` | Backgrounds & textures, 3744 × 5616, vertical, 2012 | Wikimedia Commons | CC BY 2.0 | Commercial use OK with credit | yes | | [Crinkled Wrinkled Brown Paper Bag Wallpaper Texture Free High Resolution Creative Commons (8077072070)](https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Crinkled_Wrinkled_Brown_Paper_Bag_Wallpaper_Texture_Free_High_Resolution_Creative_Commons_(8077072070).jpg) | `wikimediacommons:Crinkled_Wrinkled_Brown_Paper_Bag_Wallpaper_Texture_Free_High_Resolution_Creative_Commons_(8077072070).jpg` | Backgrounds & textures, Photo, 5616 × 3744, 2012 | Wikimedia Commons | CC BY 2.0 | Commercial use OK with credit | yes | | [Free dark vintage paper page texture for layers (2982207584)](https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Free_dark_vintage_paper_page_texture_for_layers_(2982207584).jpg) | `wikimediacommons:Free_dark_vintage_paper_page_texture_for_layers_(2982207584).jpg` | Backgrounds & textures, 2848 × 4272, vertical, 2008 | Wikimedia Commons | CC BY 2.0 | Commercial use OK with credit | yes | | [Layer Texture 2, Paper - Seamless textures can be tiled at a smaller size. **Are 3D material textures here too?** PBR textures for 3D (with normal and roughness maps) are on 3d.shep.bot, the sister site for 3D assets. ## Related collections - [Free SVG icons from open-source icon sets](https://image.shep.bot/collections/free-svg-icons.md): Free SVG icons from open-source sets (Material Symbols, Tabler, Phosphor, Lucide and more) via Iconify, with each set's licence and transparent backgrounds. - [Free 4K nature photos: mountains, lakes, coasts](https://image.shep.bot/collections/free-4k-nature-photos.md): Free high-resolution nature photos, at least 4K on the short side: mountains, lakes, coasts and forests, with the licence and credit line on every image. - [Free botanical illustrations and plant drawings](https://image.shep.bot/collections/botanical-illustrations.md): Free public-domain botanical illustrations: hand-coloured plates of flowers, fruit and plants from old herbals and museums, ready for print and design. --- Source: https://image.shep.bot/collections/paper-textures-backgrounds
